enAble of Georgia, Inc. (enAble), a nonprofit organization serving individuals with special needs and their families, is accepting nominations for its second Special Education Teacher of the Year Award for the current school year.
enAble invites nominations of special education teachers who teach in Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, and Rockdale County schools, and who share enAble?s focus and commitment to supporting individuals with special needs to reach their full potential. Any educator or resident of the aforementioned metro counties may submit a nomination of a qualified special education teacher within those counties.
Qualified nominees must be a full-time certified or licensed special education teacher with at least three years of classroom experience. Nominees will be judged in three important areas: 1) Classroom Excellence, 2) Student/Family Engagement, and 3) Community Involvement.
enAble management sought nominations for the honor for the first time last fall from school principals, teachers, and other education leaders throughout Fulton, DeKalb and Cobb Counties, the areas primarily served by enAble. This school year, the organization has opened up the nomination process to more counties as an indication of a wider representation of enAble?s service area.
Nomination forms are due by December 31, 2012 and may be found on enAble?s Website at www.enablega.org. Access the ?Click here for Special Education Teacher Award & our 2013 Gala Information!? link at the bottom of the Home page. For the prior academic year, enAble recognized its first Special Education Teacher of the Year, Lauree Lau, a special education teacher at Crossroads Second Chance North Alternative School in Roswell, who makes an extraordinary difference in the lives of those she serves and within the community-at-large. The next award winner will be honored at enAble of Georgia Foundation?s 25th Annual ?Dare to Dream? Silver Edition Gala on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel.
