Android smartphones, led by Samsung, were the overall winner in the crucial holiday sales period at the end of last year, although Apple's iPhone continues to shine in the U.S. as well as Japan, according to the latest numbers out from Kantar Worldpanel Comtech, a division of WPP that tracks handset sales in a number of key markets over a rolling, 12-week period.
