RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- The expanding Republican majority in the North Carolina House is keeping its leader for two more years.
The House Republican Caucus meeting Saturday in Raleigh nominated state Rep. Thom Tillis of Cornelius for another two years as speaker.
The entire state House will select its speaker, but unofficial results show Republicans now will hold 77 of the House's 120 seats during the legislative session that begins in January. That's nine more than 2010.
The GOP members postponed decisions on other leadership positions until another meeting next month.
The group added a new leadership position called Republican Conference Leader. GOP House members have discussed splitting the majority leader's job into two positions, with one running day-to-day legislative priorities and the other handling fundraising and other things.
