Minecraft Hits the 4 Million Mark, Can Now Be Purchased in Stores

Minecraft has truly become one of the most popular indie games that the industry has ever seen. With over 27,000 sales every single day on Xbox Live, it's hard not to see how this open world madness of a game can be called an absolute smash and awakening? for the entire industry. While the game broke hordes of digital sales records during its first hour of release, the indie title has reached a completely epic four million downloads on XBLA today.

Seriously who hasn't played Minecraft by now? This game created by the coding hero known as Notch, is undoubtedly the single most popular game on the XBLA, and 4J development studios took to Twitter yesterday to announce their accomplishment. Between the many mods and players that enjoy this game on a daily basis, it's completely astounding what this originally mobile title has come to mean for the modern gaming community. It shows that you don't need to be a big? gun developer to profit in this industry, which has created a surge in the popularity of independent gaming.

As a sort of celebration to mark this occasion, it was recently announced that Minecraft can also be purchased in stores for PC as well. While the title itself has primarily been consumed as a download, as of today you can snag a prepaid card for $26.95 from Best Buy, Target, and Walmart stores nationwide. That being said, Minecraft continues to take the world by storm, and will most assuredly do so through a variety of different venues in the future. Congrats to Notch and 4J Studios for completely changing the way we create video games.
